Nico Rosberg wins incident-packed Australian GP after a huge crash for Fernando Alonso

Hello Dassyb blog readers and formular one fans,  below is the review from the Australian grand Prix and results. Mercedes' Nico Rosberg won a dramatic Australian Grand Prix, after a huge crash for McLaren's Fernando Alonso.
A bad start dropped Lewis Hamilton from pole to sixth but he fought to second. Rosberg took advantage when the race was stopped following Alonso's high-speed barrel-roll to switch strategy and overhaul early leader Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel. Vettel's strategy gamble on super-soft tyres mid-race failed and he took third ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.

Relive the Australian GP

A thrill-a-minute race, with action throughout the field, provided the start to the season for which F1's bosses were hoping. But its unpredictable nature meant it was impossible to form a definitive judgement on the exact relative competitiveness of the Mercedes and Ferrari teams who will dispute the season.

Massive accident changes outcome
The race arguably turned as a result of the terrifying accident involving Alonso and Esteban Gutierrez of new team Haas on lap 17. Trying to pass the Mexican on the run down to Turn Three, Alonso's front right wheel tagged the right rear of the Haas and he was launched into a barrel roll, coming to rest upside down in the barriers. The two-time champion was clearly shaken but, although he limped away from his car, he was uninjured. For the re-start, Ferrari chose to keep Vettel on the fast but fragile super-soft tyres he had fitted at his first pit stop, while Mercedes switched Rosberg from soft to medium tyres with the aim of going to the end without another stop. From that moment on, the race was Rosberg's barring problems. He merely had to hang on to Vettel and wait for the Ferrari to stop, which he did on lap 35.
Because of new restrictions on radio transmissions, Rosberg was unaware of potential problems with overheating brakes and excessive wear on his left rear tyre. But, while on the edge, both issues stayed under control until the end of the race.

What happened to Hamilton?
Hamilton had been in imperious form through practice and qualifying. He was out of the reach of his rivals as he re-found the form that had won him his third world title in 2015, but which he lost in the final three races of last season when he stopped working as hard once the title was won. But the new rules restricting the use of driver aids at starts bit him when he made a poor getaway and was swamped by Rosberg and Vettel on the run to the first corner. Hamilton's life was made more difficult when Rosberg edged him out to the edge of the track and he lost three further places. Hamilton soon passed Williams' Felipe Massa, but Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen was more difficult and Hamilton pleaded for a different strategy, Mercedes fitting medium tyres at his first pit stop on lap 16.
Mercedes were switching him to a one-stop strategy rather than the more common two in an attempt to make up more places. He stayed on those tyres during the race stoppage and although he was seventh at the re-start, he moved up as drivers in front of him stopped.
Hamilton appeared set for a comfortable cruise to second place only to make a mistake with six laps to go. That put Vettel, faster on fresher, softer tyres, on his tail but Hamilton was able to hold him off to the flag - a task eased when Vettel spun on to the grass at the penultimate corner with two laps to go.

Mercedes v Ferrari
The differing tyre strategies of the two leading teams made it hard to judge their relative pace. Overall, though, it would seem Mercedes do have a pace advantage but Ferrari did enough to prove they may be close enough to be more of a thorn in their side than they were in 2015.

Impressive debuts
Finishing behind Ricciardo, Massa took fifth ahead of other Haas of Romain Grosjean - an impressive debut for the team. Britain's Jolyon Palmer was running in the points mid-race on his debut but was passed by the Toro Rosso cars and ended up 11th, one place ahead of team-mate Kevin Magnussen. While Alonso had been running 10th before his crash, team-mate Jenson Button had a low-key race and took 14th.

2016 Formula One race schedule

Hi Dassyb blog readers and sports fans. The 2016 Formula One season will feature 21 races, up on the 20 which were staged this season, and will see Azerbaijani capital Baku make its bow on the schedule. The FIA said the season will start again in Australia on March 20 and end in Abu Dhabi on November 27.2016.
However, the United States Grand Prix in Austin, pencilled in for October, remains a provisional date due to local funding issues while the European Grand Prix in Baku may switch dates to avoid a clash with the Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race running the same June 19 weekend.
Amongst technical changes, the sport’s tyre supplier Pirelli will provide three dry-weather compounds instead of two with the aim of spicing up strategy over a racing weekend.
The World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris also approved a mandate for the FIA President, Jean Todt and commercial rights holder, Bernie Ecclestone to make recommendations over governance, engines and cost reduction. Schedule for this years formula one is shown below.

 Formula One race schedule:
March 20, Melbourne, Australia
April 3, Bahrain, Bahrain
April 17, Shanghai, China
May 1, Sochi, Russia
May 15, Barcelona, Spain
May 29, Monte Carlo, Monaco

Formula One... Hamilton takes Australian GP pole

Hi Dassyb blog readers and formula One fans.  The exciting sports is back and as usual Hamilton takes Australian GP pole. Lewis Hamilton headed a Mercedes one-two in
final practice at the Australian Grand Prix with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel close behind.
In the first measure of comparative pace between the two best teams in F1, Hamilton was only 0.228 seconds quicker than Vettel in third place. Hamilton's team-mate Nico Rosberg was just 0.052secs quicker than Vettel.
The margins suggest Ferrari have indeed closed the gap on Mercedes over the winter, as was suspected. However, it is still early days - the cars' true pace will not be seen for the first time until qualifying, which starts at 06:00 GMT.
The session will take place under new rules, with a modified elimination format and the slowest car knocked out every 90 seconds after the first half of each of the three sessions.

If Ferrari can maintain that margin, it bodes well for a championship battle between two teams in F1 for the first time since 2012, when Vettel, then at Red Bull, narrowly pipped Fernando Alonso, then at Ferrari. Vettel's team-mate Kimi Raikkonen was nearly 0.6secs behind the German - and was knocked down to fifth fastest time by Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard's team-mate Max Verstappen was sixth, ahead of the Williams of Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo. And there was encouragement and definite progress from McLaren-Honda compared to their dismal 2015 as Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button set 11th and 12th fastest times, 1.6secs off the pace. In terms of their deficit to the front, that is an improvement of a second compared to last year.
British novice Jolyon Palmer was 17th quickest for Renault, two places and just over 0.2secs behind team-mate and former McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen. The new Haas team were 18th and 19th fastest, with Mexican Esteban Gutierrez pipping Frenchman Romain Grosjean. Grosjean had a difficult start to the session when Manor's Indonesian novice Rio Haryanto collided with him as he was leaving his pit garage. Grosjean missed the first half of the session as Haas changed his floor as a precaution.

Champions League draw....Barcelona to face Atletico Madrid, PSG gets Man city

Hi Dassyb blog readers and sports fans. Thank God its Friday.  After an exciting round of 16, the draws for the quarter finals was just held and more interesting fixtures awaits us.
Well, some intriguing ties there. Barcelona v Atlético stands out for me. They have been
beaten twice by them in La Liga this season but they just have an incredible way of
frustrating teams in Europe. It might not be pretty but it will test the creative and
swashbuckling power of Barcelona’s MSN more than any other tie. As for Manchester City , well, they may benefit from PSG having already won Ligue 1. Bayern have had a habit of switching off once their domestic season has been wrapped up. Will PSG do the same? Man City will certainly hope so. Laurent Blanc’s challenge will be to keep the intensity levels
up until three weeks’ time.

Below is list of fixtures from the quarter final draw.
Wolfsburg v Real Madrid
Bayern Munich v Benfica
Barcelona v Atlético Madrid
PSG v Manchester City
The first legs will be played on 5-6 April, with the second legs played on 12-13 April.
Below are few memes about the draw

Bayern break Juve hearts in stunning comeback while Barcelona complete last-16 triumph over Arsenal

Hi Dassyb blog readers and football fans. Hope you are having an awesome week?  Two thrilling matches were played yesterday and the UCL live up to expectations after the thrilling comeback of Bayern against Juventus and Barcelona's MSN all getting on the score sheet.  The matches were nothing less of awesome.

Bayern 4-2 Juventus (aet; agg: 6-4)
After Thomas Müller forced extra time, substitutes Thiago Alcántara and Kingsley Coman capped a remarkable Bayern comeback in the round of 16.
Two goals in three extra-time minutes from substitutes Thiago Alcántara and Kingsley Coman decided a roller-coaster UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie in Bayern München's favour, as an initially excellent Juventus display foundered amid a dramatic finale to an already see-saw encounter.

In a direct reversal of the Turin first leg, and at a ground where Bayern had won their preceding nine UEFA Champions League home matches, Juve led 2-0 through Paul Pogba and Juan Cuadrado's first-half goals only to be pegged back just short of the final whistle.

For all Bayern's possession football, the hosts were revived by headers from crosses – Robert Lewandowski's 73rd-minute conversion of a Douglas Costa centre, followed by Thomas Müller nodding in Coman's wicked 91st-minute delivery.

Barcelona 3-1 Arsenal (agg: 5-1)
Neymar, Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi were all on target as the holders reached the last eight for the ninth season running. It was a familiar story at the Camp Nou as Barcelona eased through to a ninth successive UEFA Champions League quarter-final and Arsenal, impressive at times, bowed out in the last 16 yet again.

Neymar's early goal all but ended the tie as a contest, and though Mohamed Elneny's fabulous strike earned Arsenal parity of the night, Barcelona had the last word. First Luis Suárez made it 2-1 in outrageous fashion before Lionel Messi chipped in to complete a 5-1 aggregate win.
Below is list of the last eight teams.  The quarterfinal draw  will be held on Friday. Congrats to all teams who made it this far.

Maria Sharapova announces failed drug test at Australian Open

Maria Sharapova announced she failed a drug test at the Australian Open in a press conference Monday in Los Angeles.
Sharapova was informed by the International courts Federation that she tested positive for Meldonium, which was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of banned substances on Jan. 1, 2016. Sharapova said she has legally been taking the drug for 10 years. Sharapova did not disclose what penalty she will face for the positive test. “I know that with this, I face consequences,” Sharapova said. “I don't want to end my career this way, and I really hope I will be given another chance to play this game.” The test was conducted on Jan. 26 before being examined by a WADA accredited laboratory, which returned the positive for Meldonium. The ITF announced Sharapova will be provisionally suspended beginning on March 12.

The drug was added to WADA's banned list as it showed “evidence of its use by athletes with the intention of enhancing performance.” Melodonium is a drug used clinically to treat angina, myocardial infarction and chronic heart failure.
WTA Chairman and CEO Steve Simon issued the following statement: “I am very saddened to hear this news about Maria. Maria is a leader and I have always known her to be a woman of great integrity. Nevertheless, as Maria acknowledged, it is very player's responsibility to know what they put in their body and to know if it is permissible. This matter is now in the hands of the Tennis Anti-Doping Program and it's standard procedures. The WTA will support the decisions reached through this process.”
The World Anti-Doping Agency said it will refrain from commenting on the case until a decision has been issued by the ITF.
Her parents were also in attendance at the press conference. Sharapova has struggled with her shares of injuries in the past year as she withdrew from last year's U.S. Open with a right leg injury. Most recently, she he dropped out of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells due to a left forearm injury.

At 18, Sharapova topped the world with the No. 1 ranking by the Women's Tennis Association on August 22, 2005. Sharapova will turn 29 next month and is ranked No. 6 by
the WTA Sharapova has won five Grand Slam titles in her career, which is the third most among active players behind Serena and Venus Williams.
Nike has suspended its relationship with tennis star Maria Sharapova as the fallout from her admission of a positive drug test at this year's Australian Open continues.
"We are saddened and surprised by the news about Maria Sharapova," a Nike statement read. "We have decided to suspend our relationship with Maria while the investigation continues. "We will continue to monitor the situation."
It is not the first time this year that Nike has distanced itself from a controversial athlete. Filipino boxing great Manny Pacquiao saw his contract with the sportswear company terminated after he described guy couples as "worse than animals".

Sharapova is a great sportswoman and above all a great Human being hopefully this all pans out well for her. Don't forget to leave your thoughts about this in the comments section. Thank you for reading.
