Barcelona completes a stunning and historic comeback against PSG while Borussia Dortmund thrashes Benfica

Yesterday night saw an historic and magical comeback from Fc Barcelona where they were 5-3 down on aggregate in the 88th minute, but scored three goals in the final seven minutes in one of the greatest European ties of all time. A goal in the fifth-minute of injury time from Sergi Roberto gave Barcelona a miracle 6-1 win over Paris Saint Germain to reach the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday in breathtaking style.Barca scored three times in the last few minutes to go through 6-5 on aggregate having lost 4-0 in Paris in the first leg.

Barcelona had led 2-0 at the break courtesy of Luis Suarez's header after just three minutes and Layvin Kurzawa's own goal.And they added another shortly after half-time when Neymar fell over Thomas Meunier in the box and Lionel Messi converted the penalty.

Edinson Cavani lashed home for PSG on 61 minutes and the quarter-finals looked beyond Barca, but they obviously had not read the script.

Neymar curled a sumptuous free-kick into the top corner before Suarez won a penalty and gave it to the Brazilian to convert - which he did comfortably, leaving Barca with one goal to find in injury time.And Neymar, who put in one of his finest ever performances, turned provider for substitute Roberto who poked home his first goal of the season as the Nou Camp exploded.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hat-trick as Borussia Dortmund thrashed Benfica to ease into the Champions League quarter-finals.

The hosts trailed 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg but Aubameyang levelled the last-16 tie after just four minutes with a header at the back post. Dortmund took control after Christian Pulisic scored on 59 minutes.The 18-year-old winger brilliantly chipped onrushing goalkeeper Ederson after being slid in by Lukasz Piszczek.

Aubameyang, who missed a penalty in the first leg in Lisbon, then swept in Marcel Schmelzer's low cross two minutes later before an unmarked Marc Bartra hit the post from a corner.

The Gabon striker completed his treble with five minutes remaining as he turned in Erik Durm's sublime pass.

Dortmund have now lost only one of their last 12 European home matches under coach Thomas Tuchel as they reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2014.

What a great night of champions league we witnessed. And this will be a night to talk about and remember in years to come. Congratulations to Barcelona and Dortmund.

Bayern demolishes Arsenal while Madrid cruise through

Hello Dassyb's blog readers and football fans. Hope you are all good? two matches kicked off the second leg of round of 16 UEFA champions league matches with a repetition of first leg results being recorded.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid took care of business on Tuesday, becoming the first two teams to qualify for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with wins over Arsenal and Napoli, respectively.

Both teams struggled in the first half but turned up the jets after the break, replicating the scorelines from the first legs. For Bayern, that meant a monstrous 10-2 aggregate win over the Gunners, while Real had to settle for a 6-2 aggregate score.

Here's a look at Tuesday's results:

Devastated gunners

A debated decision in the 53rd minute shattered any hopes of the Gunners becoming the first side in Champions League history to overturn a four-goal deficit, having also lost the first leg in Germany 5-1.
They led through Theo Walcott's stunning 20th-minute goal, before Bayern were awarded a penalty that also resulted in the sending off of defender Laurent Koscielny. The France centre-back was initially shown a yellow card by referee Anastasios Sidiropoulos for his foul on Robert Lewandowski inside the area - but it was upgraded to a red once he decided Koscielny made no attempt to win the ball.
Lewandowski placed his spot-kick beyond the reach of David Ospina to give Bayern a 6-2 aggregate lead and effectively kill off the tie. The home side then folded as Bayern scored four goals in 17 minutes. Arjen Robben robbed Alexis Sanchez of the ball and beat Ospina, before Douglas Costa made it 3-1 with a stunning solo goal. Fellow midfielder Arturo Vidal grabbed a late double, first with an impudent chip before slotting in from Costa's square pass.

 

Bayern Munich celebrates scoring one of their goals

Real Madrid’s captain fantastic Sergio Ramos headed Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals with two goals in six second half minutes. Madrid were given a first-half scare by Napoli who dominated and took the lead through Dries Mertens but the second period was a very different story.

 

Zinedine Zidane’s team had forced only one corner in the first half but they won two at the start of the second 45 minutes and Ramos rose to head home both Toni Kroos kicks, the second via a huge deflection off Dries Mertens that was given by UEFA as an away goal.

Real Madrid are champions of Europe

Hello Dassyb blog readers and football fans, hope you have all been doing great? Its been a while since I posted here but tonight is a good night to be back. Real Madrid were crowned champions of Europe for the 11th time after beating Atletico Madrid in a dramatic penalty shootout in Milan.
Sergio Ramos' controversial finish put Zinedine Zidane's side ahead before Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann missed a penalty.
However, substitute Yannick Carrasco sent the Champions League final into extra-time with a close-range finish.
Cristiano Ronaldo struck the winning penalty after Juanfran had missed.

How the penalty shootout unfolded
In the shootout, Lucas Vazquez, Marcelo and Gareth Bale scored for Real, with Griezmann, Gabi and Saul Niguez replying to make it 3-3.
After Ramos stepped up to make it 4-3, Juanfran hit the post, leaving Ronaldo with the chance to win the cup.
The competition's all-time leading scorer kept his composure to win it - his third individual Champions League triumph following on his from his successes with Manchester United in 2008 and Real in 2014.

Zidane's tactics deliver silverware
Zidane, a Champions League winner with Real as a player in 2002, replaced Rafael Benitez as manager at the Bernabeu in January, with Real still reeling from a bruising 4-0 hammering by Barcelona earlier in the season and facing the prospect of a second successive campaign without major silverware.
The 43-year-old finishes it as the seventh different manager to deliver a European Cup to Real's hierarchy. As stylish as his side were going forward, they were just as impressive at the back as Atletico's attacking duo of Griezmann and Fernando Torres were starved of service before the interval. Bale and Ronaldo repeatedly dropped back into midfield to help cut out the supply routes to Griezmann and Torres, while Karim Benzema also typified Real's work rate by dropping back to defend.
Atletico were the better side after the break yet fortune was on Real's side as Pepe's rash challenge on Torres went unpunished and Stefan Savic stabbed another golden chance wide.

What now for Simeone and Atletico?
Three weeks ago, Atletico were on course for a La Liga and Champions League double, yet Diego Simeone's side end the season without a trophy after the most heartbreaking of defeats.

Having finished three points behind champions Barcelona in Spain, they are left to reflect on what might have been despite an impressive second-half performance at the San Siro.
Griezmann became more dangerous as the final wore on but his missed penalty proved crucial, even though Carrasco later levelled after Juanfran's brilliant volleyed cross.
It is the third time Atletico have reached the final and failed to win yet the future remains bright, with Simeone likely to remain in charge next season despite interest from Premier League clubs.
His task this summer will be keeping his assets, with Griezmann and midfielder Saul having been linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.
Clattenburg emerges with praise
England's Mark Clattenburg had his work cut out as he refereed a tempestuous derby, which saw eight bookings.
Real defender Pepe was at his theatrical best from the start as he tried to influence the Premier League official, who also had to calm down Simeone after Dani Carvajal's early foul on Griezmann.
Ramos put Real ahead from what looked like an offside position but Clattenburg's assistant kept his flag down.
However the 41-year-old from County Durham, who will be officiating at Euro 2016, was right to award the penalty which saw Griezmann hit the underside of the bar in the 47th minute.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid also won their final game of the season. At the bottom of the table, Sporting gijon survived relegation. Getafe, Rayo vallecano and Levante are relegated.

The reds won by 3 goals to nothing at anfield even after losing by 1 goal to nothing in spain in the first leg while Sevilla also won at home making it their third back to back finals. Here, we take a look at how they defied the odds in a transformation that took them from relegation favourites to title winners.

What a difference a year makes

A 4-3 defeat at Tottenham on 21 March 2015 was Leicester's seventh Premier League game without a victory and left them seven points from safety with nine games remaining.

A late Andy King winner in a 2-1 victory over West Ham kickstarted their revival - and they have not looked back since.

How did they do it?

At the start of this season the Foxes picked up where they left off in May, a 4-2 opening-day win over Sunderland taking them to the top of the table.

They stayed there for two weeks before consecutive draws against Tottenham and Bournemouth saw them slip to third. That was supposed to be the start of their slide down the table, but it never happened.

In fact, Leicester did not drop below sixth place all season and, after moving to the top again on 11 January courtesy of a 1-0 win at title rivals Tottenham, they would not relinquish that position for the rest of the season.

Their form would enable them to clinch the title with two games to spare. But even if they win their remaining matches, they will have won the title with fewer points than any of the previous five winners.

The most recent published figures for Premier League wages come from the 2015 Annual Review of Football Finance, published by Deloitte's Sports Business Group. They relate to the 2013-14 season, when Leicester (as well as Watford and Bournemouth) were Championship clubs, but the figures below give a sense of the huge disparity in budgets between Leicester and the Premier League's biggest payers.

Most recent first-time league winners

In winning the Premier League, Leicester became the first first-time winners of England's top-flight title since Nottingham Forest achieved the feat under Brian Clough in 1978.
